About Us

Weaver Insurance & Financial Advisors Office

Our Mission
Weaver Insurance & Financial Advisors seeks to build upon its sixty-plus year history of serving clients and the community. We build relationships based on honesty, integrity and exemplary service in meeting the insurance, investment and financial planning needs of our clients. Our success is measured by the solutions we provide and the generations of families we serve.

Our History

Weaver Insurance started in 1958 when the original owner, Ralph Weaver, started selling life insurance in his basement in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. Ralph remained an owner of Weaver Insurance until his retirement in 1986. Leonard Showalter joined Ralph in 1960 as an owner. They were able to lay a solid groundwork for the agency’s future by what they were able to accomplish over the company’s first decade.

There have been other owners to help lead Weaver Insurance over the years. J. Hunter Hite became an owner from 1969 until 1982. Darrell Weaver became an owner of Weaver Insurance. Darrell was the son of Ralph Weaver and was an owner until his retirement in 2007. In addition, Brent Showalter, son of Leonard, became an owner in 1986. Brent retired at the end of 2019, as one of Weaver’s longest tenured owners.

In 1986 Mike Twitchell joined the ownership group and stayed until his retirement in 2000.  Jerry Zirkle, son-in-law of Ralph Weaver, became owner in 1991 and served until his retirement in 2018.

Chad Hatter became an owner in 2007, and serves as the company President as well as Director of the Financial Services Division.  J.R. Showalter serves as Vice-President and has been part of our Financial Services team since 2004 (and has been an owner since 2019).  Our newest member of the ownership team (as of 2020) is Joel Frazier, who heads up both our Personal and Commercial lines insurance divisions.  Joel formerly owned and operated his own insurance agency (Old Dominion Insurance) before merging with Weaver in 2017.

In 2005 Weaver Insurance became known as Weaver Insurance & Financial Advisors, in recognition of the new division that Chad now directs, the Financial Services Division.

As of January 2018, Weaver Insurance & Financial Advisors purchased Old Dominion Insurance of Virginia, formerly located in Verona, Virginia. This acquisition provides access to additional insurance companies in order that we may continue to meet our mission to “build relationships based on honesty, integrity and exemplary service in meeting the insurance, investment and financial planning needs of our clients.”

An Independent Advantage

We are Independent Agents in Waynesboro, VA, free to choose the best carrier for your insurance needs. We do not work for an insurance company; we work for you. We work on your side when you have a loss and follow through to see that you get fair, prompt payment and service. Weaver Insurance & Financial Advisors represents a carefully selected group of financially strong, reputable insurance companies. Therefore, we are able to offer you the best coverage at the most competitive price. What is an Independent Insurance Agent? When you decide to buy a car, you wouldn't purchase the first one you see. What if one day the automobile industry decided to make only one type of car, one make and one model. You wouldn't have a choice! The same situation holds true for insurance. You need insurance to drive a car, to purchase a house, to protect your family's financial future and to run a small business. But if there was only one insurance company that offered only one type of insurance, you wouldn't have a choice. The only solution would be going to that one company. With an independent insurance agent, you have choices. Independent agents are not tied to any one insurance company. One of the advantages of using an independent agent is that he or she works to satisfy your needs. You are using an expert for an important financial decision. An independent agent has several companies that he or she can approach to get you the best coverage at the best price. And your independent agent will know the companies with the most efficient claims departments to recover your losses as quickly as possible. When you buy insurance, you want an advocate who will properly assess the risks you face and give you an objective analysis of the marketplace, because it's up to you to make the final choice.
